Scorcher in the kitchen!
We have given up central air this year, so far. If we do much more canning though, I may have to break down and turn it on. It is so hot tonight! How did Mrs. Ingalls ever manage?!
I've noticed that many newer homes (since the advent of a/c) have very little or no cross ventilation. If you thought it out before building you'd have rooms facing the optimal direction, windows and walls positions that would allow air to pull through the house and install fans (attic or whole house)fans to draw out the heat. We kept this in mind as we designed ours and other than wanting to be comfortable while getting ready to go to work in the morning, we could do without a/c until temperatures reached upper 80s during the night.
